His Early Life

His full name is Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton. This racing superstar was born in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom on 7 January 1985. Hamilton has a Caucasian mother and a Black father. But he considers himself as black. His life had a slightly tumultuous beginning since his parents divorced when he was just two years of age. Hamilton lived with his mother Carmen and his step sisters till he was twelve years old. After that, Hamilton went to live with his father Anthony, his half-brother Nicolas and their stepmother. 

Showing Promise

Like all great champions of any sport, Hamilton showed a keen interest in car racing. When Lewis Hamilton turned 6 years of age, he was given a radio-operated car by his dad. Hamilton surprised everyone by taking second place at the British Car Association championship event. 

Buoyed by this success, Hamilton’s father bought him a go-kart for Christmas. Seeing his son’s interest in the sport, Hamilton’s father agreed to support Lewis’ expanding racing career. But Lewis had to promise not to quit school and work equally hard at his studies. 

Lewis Hamilton went to the John Henry Newman School in Hertfordshire. He also had a liking for football while at that school. Lewis transferred to Cambridge Arts and Sciences at the beginning of the 2001 school session. 

His Official Career Begins

Lewis Hamilton originally joined the young driver program at McLaren in 1998 when he was just 13 years of age. When he was old enough to race professionally, he finished in second position after Kim Raikkonen in the 2007 race season. By this time he had turned 22 years old. Hamilton won his first Formula One World Championship in 2008 in the last race of that season. 

Lewis Hamilton signed up to race with the Mercedes Team in the year 2013. His expertise on the race track really took off, as he won three titles in succession in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Prior to this, he had also won five world championships, including consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015. As of now, Hamilton has won six world championships and is placed second to Michael Schumacher, who is the only person in the world to win the championship a total of seven times in all.

The year 2018 saw Lewis Hamilton start a clothing line called TOMMYXLEWIS. This is a collaboration with ace designer Tommy Hilfiger. 

Hamilton unfortunately has been receiving some criticism for his remarks both on the track and off it. Since he is an internationally known celebrity, he remains in the public eye and his remarks are closely followed. Hamilton himself admits to being rather competitive and this sometimes results in his making some inadvertent remarks that are twisted by the press, putting him in a bad light. 

As an example, when Hamilton was racing in the Spanish Grand Prix, he received racial slurs from some Spanish supporters. They were evidently supporting Fernando Alonso who is of Spanish origin. 

In 2018, Hamilton entered into a contract with Mercedes, amounting to some $50 million annually. At least that was a popular rumor doing the rounds at that time.

Hamilton stated that he would be racing in a fully black Mercedes since June 2020. The car was designed by Hamilton himself and is being used in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.  

Personal Life

Hamilton started seeing the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger in November 2007. They have since broken up and reunited on a number of occasions. They finally called off their relationship with each other in February 2015.  

Meanwhile, Hamilton seems equally active on the dating circuit as well. He has dated females as varied as Rihanna, Rita Ora, and models like Lotta Hinsa, Vivian Burkhhardt, Barbara Palvin and singer Nicki Minaj. 

Lewis practices a vegan lifestyle. Although he is a British citizen, he avoids living in the UK permanently due to the high taxes there. It is not so commonly known that he gets his first name after Olympic sprinter Carl Lewis, who was probably the favorite of one of his parents or relatives.

Lewis Hamilton admits to being a die-hard Arsenal fan. He has even commented that if not for racing cars, he would have opted for either cricket or football as a second choice regarding his career.
